When hearts did not get broken...

They say the artist's best work is when he's in his deepest darkest state... I have no idea who said that or if it has been said in the first place, but I believe it's true anyway.

This poem was written by a very close friend of mine. She was in a dark place at one point and wrote it...and it made some of us actually cry. She chose to stay anonymous.

And yes it's OK to cry
Once in a while
And yes it's ok to drown in tears
When there's nothing else to do

Yes the word heartbreak
Means heartbreak
Can't be easy for sure

It means u know that person u thought u would continue ur life with
Remember the person u felt safe with..
Remember the person u trusted..
Forget about that person
Because you are not the best judge of character

It means when dreams diverge
When streets turn
When hopes collapse
And when memories burn

It means that any step
U shudn't have done
Has been done
And cannot be undone

It means that every step
U thought would happen
Will happen
And cannot unhappen

It means that every time u imagined
U imagined wrong
Every time u dreamed
U dreamed wrong
It means every time U loved
U loved wrong
And that every time u missed
U missed wrong
Every time u felt warm
It would turn cold
And every time u smiled
Results in moments of tears

It means every time u thought u knew it
U didn't

It means every time u thought u planned ur life right
It wasn't

It means that every word u said
Was meaningless
Every thing u owned
Was temperoray

It means that every feeling u had
was meaningless

And that every feeling u felt
Now Ate u up inside

Means that your past
Is in your present
That everytime someone said engagements are meant to be broken
Every time someone said I met 50 guys before meeting my husband
Was true

It means that everyone who said that 'that doesn't work'
Probably knew what they r talking about
And that people who said
Fairy tales are just fairy tales
Knew what they were talking about

You see I have welcomed u
To a dark side of this so mixed up world
A world That I sometimes can't imagine leaving
Yet can't imagine living in for so very long

You see..
A world is not a map
Where u knw where to turn right and left
Let's call it a football match
A rugby match
Where players tackle u right and left
And u do everything in ur powerr to try not to fall down
To run as fast as ur legs can carry u
To stay balanced
Stay strong
Stronger than everyone whose trying to pull u down

Then u wish..
U wish u cud go back to the time

When life was school
The four walls surrounding us
Where that was our safety zone
Outside was not for us
Our joy, happiness, wamrth, security, path were in those buildings
In those classes..

Our lessons were in those morning lines.
A life where blue and green was the only way to go
Where a bag was the only thing u needed

When u could sleep when u wanted
And cry when u were sad
When u could laugh out loud
And ask any question at any time to anyone

When u could hug ur brother because he was just downstairs
When u could take money from ur mum
Cause she was just at the end of the hall

When u could love unconditionally
And say it
And not get hurt

When u could have friends
Who would be there no matter what
When u could fight and make up
When u could turn ur head upside down to fix ur hair

When u were someone
In the middle of a herd
Not Someone In the middle of, everyone.

When being smart was doing good on ur A levels
And exams were just a way to go out
When everyone was the same
And everyone was special.

When hearts did not get broken...
When hearts did not get broken.

  1. I love this poem...it is a transition into maturity. The poet moves
from childhood to adulthood but it is not an easy journey. It is apoem full of strength and weakness, happiness and sadness- many contrasts work effectively to make the poem a personal statement. It is intense yet simple, passionate yet demure ,confused yet sure- a melange of feelings and emotions that beat against eachother as in a rugby match,in fact.
